Alfred Bernhard Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist.
He held 355 different patents, dynamite being the most famous.
He is the founder and namesake of the Nobel Prize:
Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature,  Peace and Economics (since 1968).
First laureates in 1901 were
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (physics)
Jacobus H. van ’t Hoff (chemistry)
Emil von Behring (physiology or medicine)
