Giovanni Domenico Cassini, also known as Jean-Dominique Cassini,
was an Italian (naturalised French) mathematician, astronomer and
      engineer,
He discovered four satellites of the planet Saturn and noted the
division of the rings of Saturn.
His observations of the lunar surface - drawings made by Patigny
      from 1672 to 1678 -
lead to a Moon Map (1769) and to the realization of a large folio
      atlas by Cassini IV (1786).
