Zhores Ivanovich Alferov was a Soviet and Russian physicist and academic
who contributed significantly to the creation of modern heterostructure physics and electronics.
He shared the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics for the development
of the semiconductor heterojunction for optoelectronics.
